Kathoga

This is my version of the Kathoga from the movie the Relic, as with all the personal projects I've posted to date this started off as spheres cylinders and cubes and no other 3d data was used as a base asset of any kind. I've used some XYZ textures for the tusks teeth and scales, for the tusks and the teeth I have to admit that the xyz really made it easy but in the case of the scales, only height data was ever used and large areas were entirely sculpted from scratch and most of it modified in some way to better match the creature and respect the flow of wrinkles and anatomy. I mainly targeted the live action version originally created by Stan Winston's team detailing was the focus of this project and hats off to them they really went all out to detail and texture that creature suit by hand.
I relied on procedurally generated masks that I created mainly in Substance designer for the albedo and roughness (I learned a lot about this program and about texturing overall and about numerous texturing apps during this project). I tried to do some similar lighting to the movie as the concept I think lends itself better to that. It was a lot of fun matching the creature using glimpses from the movie along with some other ref I was able to get from Stan Winstons website and various other places.
